Esthetics



(EST100) Course Length: 600 Hours





Students in the Esthetician course will be trained in the basic ma-nipulative skills to perform facials, waxing, hair removal and other skin care treatments. Students will develop safety judgements, proper work habits and desirable attitudes necessary to pass the State Board examination and for competency and maintain em-ployment in the Esthetician field. Student will learn all techniques through classroom and clinic experience. A typical day will consist of a combination of theory, practical and clinical experiences. The course is fast-paced, giving you a lot of information up to 18 weeks.



Objectives:
Upon completion of the course requirements, the
determined graduate will be able to:

Project a positive attitude and a sense of personal integrity and self-confidence.

Practice proper grooming and effective communications skills and visual poise.



RELATIONSHIPS



Understand employer-employee relationships and respect the need to deliver worthy service for the value received.



SKILLS



Perform the basic manipulative skills required for facial mas-sage, effective use of required implements and equipment, proper application of corrective makeup, unwanted hair removal, and lash/brow tinting.



DECISION MAKING



Apply the theory, technical information and related mater to assure sound judgements, decisions and procedures



To ensure continued career success, the graduate will continue to learn new and current information related to techniques, trends fashions and methods for career development in esthetics and related career positions.

Beyond Beauty Academy does not engage in any type of telecommunications activities away from its principal or main location. Beyond Beauty Academy offers its main studio and campus.

All graduating students will satisfy the requirements for the DPOR certification. Students who have graduated will be able to sit for the state licensure exam.

The total hour requirements must be met by each student in each category in order for the earned hours to be accepted by the state licensing board for examination. The generous portion of miscella-neous hours is to be applied as needed in curriculum-related areas or if the student desires to specialize in a specific area.



Esthetician Course Curriculum

School Rules and regulations; history of esthetics, role of the esthetician, qualities of the professional esthetician; Code of Ethics; familiarization of school facilities and supplies; career paths for estheticians; Safety and Health; First Aid; local, state and federal safety codes; salon/clinic rules and regulations

BACTERIOLOGY, DECONTAMINATION, AND INFECTION CONTROL



Types and classifications; bacterial growth and reproduction; bacterial infections and their prevention; immunity and body defenses; methods of infection control; physical and chemical agents



STRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONS OF THE SKIN



Physiology and histology of the skin; structure and functions of the skin; hair structure and functions with appendages; relation to esthetics (nails, sebaceous gland and sweat glands)



ANATOMY, PHYSIOLOGY AND NUTRITION



Cells, tissues and organ; body systems; importance of water; nutrition for healthy skin and longevity



CHEMISTRY AND CHEMISTRY AS APPLIED TO COSMETICS



Chemistry and matter as related to esthetics; chemical reactions and solutions/elements; compounds and mixtures/biochemistry; the pH scale; cosmetics; skin care products; massage creams and oils, ampoules, scrubs, new technologies; FDA laws governing cosmetics and cosmetic safety



SUPERFLUOUS HAIR



Theoretical overview of permanent methods (electrolysis, thermolysis, blend); temporary methods of hair removal (manual tweezing, depilatory lotions, waxing, strip & non-strip)



BODY PROCEDURES (No Machines)



Body exfoliation; back treatments; use of products to enhance skin appearance; training required for advanced body techniques such as aromatherapy, manual lymphatic drainage, water therapies



ELECTRICITY AND MACHINES



Electricity and its effects on the skin; galvanic current for chemical (desincrustation) and ionic iontophoresis; high-frequency current; use of magnifying lamp, Wood’s lamp; use of brushing, spray, suction maci-nes; use of vaporizer, pulverizador, hot towel cabinet; paraffin unit; electric mittens, booties and face mask



MAKEUP TECHNIQUES



Color analysis; morphology of the face; product knowledge, chemistry and related composition; eyebrow contouring; makeup application; corrections and contouring; false eyelashes; eyelash and eyebrow tinting; further training required for advanced techniques



BUSINESS PRACTICES



Business operations; site planning and design; accounting, inventory and sales tax; payroll regulations; ethics and professional conduct; communi-cation skills; retailing techniques; marketing (advertising, retailing and promotion); customer relations



FACIAL TREATMENT



Clients preparation; skin analysis and consultation; skin types; skin con-ditions and disorders; facial procedures; facial treatments with or with-out machines; overview of aromatherapy and manual lymphatic drain-age for the face and neck; product recommendation



JOB SKILLS



Resume; interviews; letter writing, licensing regulations; job attitudes; professional organizations; continuing education; industry trade show, magazines; career opportunities
